A 9-day family-focused private tour from Frankfurt to Bavaria, combining Rhine River castles, Legoland Deutschland, Neuschwanstein, and medieval Rothenburg — designed for children ages 4-14 and their families.
This tour is specifically designed for families with children ages 4 to 14, along with parents, grandparents, or multigenerational groups. We know that a week of castles alone can lose even the most enthusiastic young traveler, so we've woven in experiences that kids genuinely love — from Legoland Deutschland's 50 million Lego bricks to cable car rides up Mount Tegelberg with an optional bobsled run.
Starting along the romantic Rhine with its hilltop fortresses, three nights at the Art Nouveau Bellevue Rheinhotel in Boppard set the stage. You'll cruise past the legendary Loreley Rock, explore the never-destroyed 11th-century Marksburg Castle, and venture into the magnificent 12th-century Burg Eltz surrounded by river on three sides. Then the route winds south through Heidelberg — with its famous castle and cogwheel train — and Stuttgart before arriving at Legoland Deutschland.
The Bavarian chapter brings Neuschwanstein Castle, Lake Alpsee, and a cable car ascent of Mount Tegelberg. The tour closes in medieval Rothenburg ob der Tauber, where the entire family can walk the ancient ramparts and hear the Meistertrunk legend of the burgomaster who saved his town by emptying a six-pint tankard in one draught.
Like our Bavaria tour, this journey can be extended with an Italian Extension south across the Alps — perfect for families who want a Mediterranean finish.
Highlights
Your Journey
This isn't a tour with children in tow — it's a tour designed around how children experience the world. Rhine castles with towers to climb, a full day at Legoland, Neuschwanstein where fairy tales become real, and medieval Rothenburg where every cobblestone has a story. Parents and grandparents get their share of wonder, too — it's just served alongside the kind of excitement that makes kids forget they're learning.
Day 2
A Rhine cruise past the legendary Loreley Rock brings you to Rüdesheim, where a cable car floats above the vineyards to the Niederwald Monument. In the afternoon, the massive ruins of Rheinfels Castle at St. Goar are the kind of place where imagination takes flight.

Day 3
Marksburg Castle has stood since the eleventh century — never destroyed, every room intact. At Koblenz, two rivers meet in a dramatic confluence. Then Burg Eltz appears through the forest, a castle that looks like it grew from the hillside itself.

Day 4
Heidelberg Castle tells its own dramatic story — the great wine vat alone is worth the visit. A cogwheel train descends into the old university city. The afternoon offers choices: the Wilhelma Zoo, the Mercedes-Benz Museum, or simply exploring Stuttgart.

Day 6
Neuschwanstein needs no introduction to children — this is the castle that launched a thousand fairy tales. Inside, the halls glow with murals and gold. Afterward, Lake Alpsee invites a stroll, and a cable car ride up Mount Tegelberg delivers Alpine views with an optional bobsled run.

Day 7
Medieval Rothenburg ob der Tauber wraps you in cobbled lanes and half-timbered houses. Walking the ramparts, hearing the legend of the Meistertrunk, discovering hidden courtyards — it's the kind of day where the whole family is in the same story.
