Good to Know
What to Bring
Warm jacket, Sturdy, closed-toe shoes with good grip, Sunglasses, Sunscreen, Camera with charged battery, Light gloves and hat (recommended in spring and autumn)
Weather
The summit is frequently above the clouds — on overcast days, you may ascend through fog and emerge into brilliant sunshine above a sea of clouds (a magical experience). However, in heavy rain or thunderstorms, the summit cable car may be temporarily closed. Morning is almost always the clearest time, which is why we start early.
Physical Level
The mountain does all the work — cogwheel train and cable cars handle the elevation. At the summit, you stroll flat platforms and terraces at your own pace. The air is thinner up top, so take it easy and enjoy the views. Not suitable for: Guests with severe vertigo or fear of heights — the cable car descent, summit platforms, and viewing terraces are at extreme altitude with exposed drops; Guests with serious heart conditions or respiratory issues — the altitude (2,962m) causes noticeable shortness of breath; consult your doctor if in doubt.
“Germany's highest peak without a single step of hiking — the cogwheel train up and the cable car down gave us summit views with zero stress. Eibsee lake was stunning.”
Laura & Chris, Arizona
“The turquoise water of Eibsee alone would have made the trip worthwhile. Then you add the panorama from the Zugspitze summit and it's simply unbeatable.”
Fiona H., Dublin
“Standing on Germany's highest point with the Alps in every direction — absolutely unforgettable. The early start was worth it.”
Michael R., New York
“The cable car descent to Eibsee was the highlight of our entire European vacation. That turquoise water!”
Leslie G., Washington
